Earth-Philosophy. Geophilosophical Perspectives on Ecology

Beschreibung

The launching of Sputnik 1 (1957) and imaging of the earth from space was taken up by philosophers like Arendt or Heidegger. Starting from the phenomenological distinction between earth and world, I present a thesis by Marshall McLuhan concerning Sputniks opening of a planetary ecology, “when Sputnik created a new environment of the planet”: “At the moment that the earth went inside this new artifact, Nature ended and Ecology was born.”
Such an approach can be linked to what Deleuze/Guattari call Geophilosophy and which gives us an opportunity to think earth-philosophy truly ecologically under the conditions of the Anthropocene as our contemporary Sputnik moment.
