Beschreibung
"Rebels outta Vienna - Between Music and Philosophy" is a documentary film taking stock of the Viennese reggae scene and its divergent intertwining with the Afro-Caribbean Rastafarian movement. The film explores local scene peculiarities in the context of global sounds and world views. It provides an intimate insight into views and narratives, thus contributing to the audiovisual archiving of Vienna's music and cultural history.Following the 30-minute film screening, there will be a panel discussion on "Rastafari and Reggae in Vienna" from 19:00-20:00 with filmmaker Sebastian Schwager, two of the film's protagonists, Rastafari Elder Ras Kella Wala and Rastafari musician Coalman, as well as anthropologist Dr. Werner Zips, moderated by Dominik Frühwirth.
The event is part of the FWF project "Rastafari Reasonings on Africa in Historical Perspective" (P 35987-G) at the Institute for African Studies at the University of Vienna (https://afrika.univie.ac.at/forschung/drittmittelprojekte/fwf-projekt-rastafari-reasonings/) and will be held in English.
