Groundwater biodiversity hot-spot Lobau

Beschreibung

In 2020 the University of Vienna committed to a scientific focus on groundwater ecosystems. The Lobau has been selected as model monitoring site to investigate the complex interactions of hydrology and biogeochemistry. A system ecology approach has been employed where physico-chemical parameters, nutrients, microbiology, fauna and greenhouse gases are measured and analyzed. This monthly data shows the "breath" of the Au. The hydrological dynamics are crucially important for the aeration of the soil and sediment layers.
