Impact of an academic intervention on prospective teachers' mathematical world views during their transition to university

    Numerous studies have examined the impact of mathematical world views on teachers' classroom practices in recent decades. A particular focus has been placed on the possibility of changing those beliefs. In light of these findings, this study explores the impact of an academic intervention on the mathematical world views of 30 prospective teachers during their first semester at university. Using a longitudinal design, participants' beliefs were evaluated via a standardized questionnaire at the beginning and end of their first semester. The quantitative analysis shows significant shifts. Dynamic mathematical beliefs increased, while static mathematical beliefs decreased. These findings suggest that targeted interventions during the transition from school to university can have an impact on the mathematical world view of prospective teachers.
