Beschreibung

Norway spruce (Picea abies Karst L.) is one of the ecologically and economically most important forest tree species in
Europe. With the predicted climate change, droughts are expected to increase in frequency and intensity. Since Norway
spruce is highly sensitive to drought, its distribution is predicted to drastically reduce in most regions of the Europe.
However, it is unclear which populations are more tolerant to drought and what are the molecular, metabolic and
physiological basis of drought tolerance in this species. Specifically, the role of terpenoids have been hardly studied in
relation to drought in Norway spruce. In this project, by employing integrative omics (high-throughput phenotyping,
metabolomics, and functional genomics), we aim to investigate the adaptive potential and mechanistic basis of drought
tolerance in Norway spruce
