Invited Lecture Abstract Detailled knowledge of aerosol physical and chemical properties are of great importance for the study of aerosol effects on climate and human health. These properties are often investigated in bulk aerosol samples, i.e., particles collected on filters or impaction surfaces, thus yielding properties of the whole or a select fraction of the particle population. However, many processes, such as condensation and activation into cloud droplets, happen on a single particle level. To date, only few measurement methods can produce information on single particles. One of these is single particle mass spectrometry. A new single particle mass spectrometer will be introduced and first results presented.
