Beschreibung
The presentation Project Sarangi is concerned with two different projects: a) activities of Nepalese sarangi players to preserve and innovatively develop Nepalese music and their instrument and to serve their deprived community are highlighted, and b) the authors Do it yourself experiments in instrument making motivated by ethnomusicological interest and enthusiasm for this instrument. Felix Hoerburgers research on Nepalese music in 1966 and 1968 indirectly inspired these experiments in material culture. Through analysis of and practical engagement with music, material culture and media a focus on historical and recent transformations of the sarangi is developed. In Project Sarangi (a) Nepalese musicians are visible as performers and activists in a local and a global arena. The presentation promotes the concept of participation in material musical culture Project Sarangi (b) as a methodological instrument of fieldwork.Zeitraum | 2 Dez. 2016 |
