This presentation is dedicated to the significance of activity and responsibility of
journalists, scholars, authors and artists in their national disagreements in the periods
of political instability. My departure point is comparative analysis of propaganda and itsways of expression in the journals, at the posters, as well as paintings, theatre
performances and literature in Austro- Hungarian Monarchy and the Kingdom of Serbia during World War I.
Seen almost as the private discourse and understood as treacherous was
standing a critical expression of some intellectuals and artists was defined against the
public state discourse as a protest against uniform way of thinking.
