Central to my research is the question what it means to be human. Driven by existential questions and their expression in literature, history, theology, and philosophy, I try to grasp the meaning of human life. My main focus has been religion and meaning making in a (post)modern and (post)secular context. Subjects I write on include faith, hope, suffering, compassion, religious experience, art/aesthetics, and sport.

Currently, I am working on my PhD project, provisionally entitled: ‘Radically Human: Allard Pierson’s True Humanity and Aesthetics Through the Lens of John D. Caputo’s Radical Theology’. I plan to complete my dissertation in 2025.

As an enthusiastic athlete, I am interested in theological and philosophical reflection on the existential dimension of (high performance) sport. In addition to completing my dissertation, I am preparing a research proposal for a postdoctoral research project on this topic.
