5-Aminolevulinsäure: Interessante Vehikel für 5-ALA

    Abstract

    5-ALA (5-aminolevulinic acid) is used in the photodynamic therapy. But because of the high hydrophilicity of 5-ALA the skin permeation is poor and the chemical stability in topical vehicles is also very low. Therefore it would be of great benefit to develop drug delivery systems on one hand with good skin permeation and on the other hand with high chemical stability of 5-ALA in these vehicles. To reach these goals vehicles including penetration enhancers or cubic gels could be used. One cubic gel and one patch formulation for 5-ALA were developed. For the patch the cubic gel was mixed with a carageenan gel. After lyophillisation a drug loaded film was formed. Diffusion experiments through excised porcine skin showed an excellent permeation whereas the permeation from the patch was even higher compared to the cubic gel. However, the chemical stability of 5-ALA in the patch was not as high as in the cubic gel.
