Abstract
The study of Africa and its relations with China has become one of the fastest growing areas of inquiry in African Studies, and indeed, in International Studies, more generally. Within the larger topic of Africa – China relations, the topic of diaspora community formation by Africans in China and Chinese in Africa has been researched for over 15 years now. This bibliographical essay first introduces the topic of Africans in China and then points to the major works that have been done on African communities in the major cities in China. It also points to some research challenges in terms of methodology and finally outlines the various research strands that might gain importance in the foreseeable future.
