Abstract
The vapour-solid synthesis approach for supported intermetallic nanoparticles offers a broadly applicable method to a considerable range of intermetallic compounds with precise control of composition and crystal structure of the material. So far, the systems Ni-Te, Ni-P, Pd-Zn, Pt-Zn and Pt-Te have been studied using Al2O3, TiO2 and carbon black as support materials. Nanoparticle diameters of the intermetallic compounds were usually ranging between 5 and 30 nm. Compared to other usual methods, the vapour-solid synthesis route does not require intense development steps and can be quickly adapted to new materials. In this work we present the latest developments and highlight critical experimental parameters as well as results of previous studies with a strong emphasize on practical implementation. The aim of this short communication is to show the potential of the method to a broad audience and built a foundation for further progression. Experimental setup, vessel design, reaction parameters, pre- and post-treatment steps and systems investigated so far, are discussed.
