Elite culture

Elite culture has often been associated with high culture, and in opposition to low culture. Today, this distinction is less evident. However, elites’ cultural practices, events, and status symbols remain of importance to the understanding of power in society. Yet, for a better understanding of elites’ efforts to shape exclusive cultural environments and distinguish themselves from other social groups, their cultural occurrences should be understood in relation to their paradoxical interactions with other social groups.
