N2 - With the end of the mission of the Herschel Space Observatory in May 2013, a rich archive of data is ready to be analysed. Data reduction pipelines have progressed to give good results for most types of observations, but for other, more specialised programs, improved image reconstruction tools and methods need to be applied to fully exploit the telescope's unique sensitivity and spatial resolution. This is the case for post-main-sequence objects (typically bright stars surrounded by faint dust emission) observed with Herschel/PACS as part of the MESS sample. We compare six standard map-making tools for Herschel observations and further show how improved astrometry can enhance image quality.
