Abstract
This paper discusses the nature, impact, and consequences of Indian and Chinese
foreign direct investment in Ethiopia. This growing economic engagement has also been analyzed in the broader purview of South-South cooperation. It is argued that while Indian and Chinese economic engagement is playing a substantial role in Ethiopia's long-term development plans, it is not going to alter the nature of Ethiopia‘s asymmetric integration in the global economy. Even as Indian and Chinese economic assistance comes with no political strings attached, Ethiopia needs to strengthen its institutions and improve transparency to safeguard its long-term interests
