Abstract

The effect of the substrate material and of the surface roughness on the cell growth was investigated. A cell culture of colon carcinoma cells was grown to clarify the influence of the material on microelectronic material. Silicon nitride was found to be most appropriate insulator for enabling cell growth. The surface roughness of CaCo-2 cells with a diameter of 10 up to 40 œm is relevant for the cell growth on the surface. The results indicate that on rougher surface even a better cell adhesion was observed.
