    Abstract

Muslims who came to Europe seeking work during early 1960s brought with them their own cultural, religious, and political pasts. Over time they have developed their own religious and cultural infrastructures, which the majority of European society has come hesitantly to acknowledge. The growing presence of Muslims in public life challenges European states to allow Muslims equal participation in the public arena. The education of Muslim children plays a decisive role in this process of integration of Muslims who regard themselves as being part of Europe while maintaining their religious identity.
