Abstract
Introduction: Nanomedicine has significant potential for nucleic acid delivery and -therapy, but also faces challenges, both on the cellular level and in vivo [1]. Real-time tracking of nanocarriers in vivo can aid in identifying bot-tlenecks. The present work aims to address the above challenges by synthesizing polyplexes (complexes of nucleic acids with cationic poly-mers) functionalized with a) gold nanoparticles for small interfering RNA (siRNA) delivery (au-ropolyplexes; APxs) and b) quantum dots (QDs) for imageable gene delivery (quantopol-yplexes; QPxs).
