Abstract

The aim of this focused issue is to collect papers dealing with bio-inspired metaheuristics (e.g. ant colony optimization, evolutionary algorithms, swarm intelligence) in combinatorial optimization. Bio-inspired metaheuristics have often been shown to be effective for difficult combinatorial optimization problems appearing in various applications. Examples of such problems are routing problems (arc routing problems, vehicle routing problems, telecommunication problems), scheduling (activity, machine, project, staff scheduling, timetabling, unit commitment), location problems, bioinformatics, cutting and packing, partitioning problems, search based software engineering.
