Stratigraphy and subsidence history of the Závod Region in the Slovak part of the central Vienna Basin

Veröffentlichungen: Beitrag in BuchBeitrag in KonferenzbandPeer Reviewed

Abstract

This study presents a stratigraphic framework and subsidence history of the Závod region in the Slovak part of the central Vienna Basin, based on well data and seismic reflection data. The Závod region could separate into an eastern and a western block based on stratigraphic characteristics. Comparing with the eastern block, the western block has thicker basin infill in spite of absence of the Eggenburgian strata. These stratigraphic structures were depending on basement geomorphology and are dissected by Lower Miocene faults. Although the ZAV068 started to subside in the Eggenburgian earlier than the Karpatian of the ZAV094, subsidence pattern of both sites are quite similar, especially during the Karpatian. Since Badenian time, however, the subsidence rate at the ZAV094 site is higher considering tectonic and total subsidence. The investigated area is characterized by a tectonically dissected basement including normal faults and nappe boundaries as well. However, these local faults seemingly do not influence the tectonic subsidence history of the study area. The transgressive boundary from Eggenburgian to Karpatian is located between the two wells ZAV068 and ZAV094 which explains the lack of Eggenburgian strata in the well ZAV094.
