Abstract

Trafficking in Persons in Australia: Myths and Realities identifies and analyses reported and suspected cases of trafficking in persons in all its forms, including trafficking of persons into the sex industry and into domestic servitude, child trafficking, labour trafficking and organ trafficking. The book outlines and critically explores the response by the Australian Government, placing particular emphasis on the interpretation and analysis of Australia’s policy, legislative and regulatory frameworks pertaining to the criminalisation of trafficking in persons, law enforcement, prosecution of offenders, and protection of victims of this heinous crime. Global initiatives and best practices to confront trafficking in persons, especially those developed by the United Nations, are drawn upon to propose recommendations for policy change and law reform.Trafficking in Persons in Australia: Myths and Realities incorporates the latest legislative amendments, including the Crimes Legislation Amendment (Slavery, Slavery-like Conditions and People Trafficking) Act 2013 (Cth).
