„Trau dich! Sei laut und wehr’ dich!“ AusBildung bis 18 aus der Sicht von Teilnehmenden aus Wien

Abstract

Since the Ausbildungspflichtgesetz in 2016 has passed in Austria, offers and measures for young people at the transition from school to work have been expanded and restructured within the AusBildung bis 18 (AB18). To date, there have been some studies about AB18, but only little research on the perspectives of adolescent participants. In this paper, problem-centered interviews and participatory research projects with young people from different AB18 measures in Vienna are analyzed. We can see that the young participants faced particular obstacles in their educational journeys, mostly due to migration, difficult family circumstances, bullying, and/or health issues. Among the given offers, the young people found the youth coaching and the AusbildungsFit to be helpful. Especially individual, long-term and competence-oriented support were appreciated. The young people also have several ideas for improvement and change. They experience being measured against norms that they cannot fulfil and demand a rethinking by employers. Apart from ideas on financial and organizational points, they also demand more say in the design of measures and a reduction of structural obstacles.
