Keynote lecture The talk centers on the issue of civic engagement and how we can use experimental economics to investigate the role it plays as a foundation of the state. My talk has two parts. In the second part I will present a specific recent paper of mine with Louis Putterman and Kenju Kamei. In the first part, I would like to give some reflections on the broader context and to explain how I got interested in the topic.
