This paper aims to take a closer look at how the concept of kotoba no midare emerged and changed in the post-war public discourse in Japan. As a part of a larger scale research project dealing with a detailed analysis of articles on language change in three Japanese newspapers, it will focus on the example of one newspaper (Asahi Shimbun) from within the framework of a discourse analysis.
