LT-LiDER - Mapping AI Skills for Translators

Activity: Talks and presentationsTalk or oral contributionScience to Public

Description

The LT-LiDER project (Language and Translation: Literacy in digital environments and resources) is an Erasmus+ cooperation project with two main aims:

To map the landscape of technological capabilities required to work as a language and/or translation expert.
To generate training outputs that will help language and translation trainers to improve their skills and adopt appropriate pedagogical approaches and strategies for integrating technology into their language or translation classrooms, with a focus on digital and AI literacy.
At this session, researchers from the University of Vienna’s Center for Translation Studies will unveil the LT-LiDER Language Technology Map. This Map was developed using insights from expert interviews with specialists from the language services industry, as well as with researchers, and lists the technical skills necessary for translators today, especially in relation to AI.

The presentation will focus on how the teaching methods of the Center for Translation Studies at the University of Vienna support the development of some of those skills. The LT-LiDER resources, which are being developed for skill acquisition, will also be introduced. Specifically, LT-LiDER will publish an open-access eBook, along with several individual training resources, with the aim of helping translators and translation trainers to improve the specific skills listed in the map and incorporate such technologies and skills into translation classes.
