Description

The binary systems Cu-Sn and Cu-Sb are base systems for the investigations on technically important ternary and quaternary alloy systems, e.g. for casting alloys or lead free solders. Although, these two binary systems have been very well investigated in the last century, there were still some uncertainties regarding the high-temperature phases. Furthermore, contemporary experimental techniques haven’t been applied so far. In case of Cu-Sn, for instance, most recent experimental investigations date back to the 1940ies. The phase diagrams were examined with PXRD, SEM-EDX, EPMA, DTA and high temperature PXRD. In Cu-Sn the presence of the two-phase-field between the metastable beta- and gamma-phases was disproved, and a linear change in the lattice parameters was found. In Cu-Sb positions and crystal structures of intermetallic phases appear to be different to the phase diagram as shown e.g., in Massalskis compilation. The epsilon-phase is possibly metastable
