Description
The present study aims to identify factors for predicting high-level mobile phone use among Austrian undergraduates. Following an Australian survey by Walsh and White (2007), the underlying model was an extended version of Ajzen's (1991) theory of planned behaviour (TPB). 215 Austrian university students completed a questionnaire assessing TPB as well as identity variables. One week later, they completed a second questionnaire assessing mobile phone behaviour in the previous week. Within TPB, subjective norm emerged as the strongest predictor of high-level mobile phone intention. The addition of identity variables improved the model with self-identity becoming the second strongest overall predictor. In terms of predicting high-level mobile phone behaviour, intention was the only significant predictor. TPB was able to predict intention. The introduction of identity variables improved its predictive capability. Partial support was found for its ability to predict behaviour, as intention but not perceived behavioural control was a significant predictor.| Period | 2009 |
