The talk presents first some aspects of Roman archaeology at Austria as well as some of the most recent research projects of the Department of Classical Archaeology at the University of Vienna illustrating current archaeological approaches regarding today's archaeology at Austria. Further some future prospects of the field are discussed. Lastly, the talk also focus on the contribution of archaeology to gain a 'bigger picture' of Roman history as a whole.
