Tracing Texts: Materiality and Transmission in Manuscript Cultures

Activity: Academic eventsOrganisation of ...

Description

This one-day workshop, organised by doctoral students in Assyriology under the Doctoral School of Philological and Cultural Studies, Section Manuscript Cultures, brings together early-career researchers focused on the study of manuscript-based texts across historical periods. Designed to foster scholarly exchange, the workshop will explore key themes such as text transmission, materiality, and evolving editorial methodologies, with an emphasis on how the physical characteristics of manuscripts inform our understanding of authorship, scribal practices, and textual reception over time. The workshop organisers and doctoral school members are based in Vienna, with three invited pre-doctoral speakers joining us from universities abroad. This workshop’s format includes presentations by the three invited pre-doctoral speakers, followed by interactive discussions.
