Personal profile
Curriculum vitae
Born in Vienna, Austria; married; three children (born 1997, 1999, and 2006).
After graduation (with honors) from grammar school, I earned some work-experience in France and the United States before taking up my studies in English and American philology and Chinese studies at the University of Vienna, Beijing University (PRC), and National Taiwan Normal University (Taibei, Taiwan). The completion of my Master's Degree (with honors) first led to employment in the import-export trade sector of a private company, earning a certificate in Export management from the Vienna University of Economics and Business at the same time.
Never neglecting, however, my love for learning and teaching foreign languages, I have soon started to make language teaching my main profession. I received the Certificate EUROLTA Level 2 in foreign language didactics from the Vienna Association for Adult Education and worked as an instructor for German and English at various levels before making the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language my career.
I have thus been teaching Chinese at a number of higher education institutions in Vienna since 1999 and been involved in various transnational educational projects with China at the UAS Technikum Wien.
With the help of a research grant I was able to spend the academic year 2003/04 at China Three Gorges University (Sanxia Daxue) in Yichang, Hubei, working on a research project in the field of Internationalization in Higher Education and as a lecturer in English.
In 2010 I was appointed Senior Lecturer at the Institute of East Asian Studies (Department for Chinese Studies), University of Vienna.
In 2017 I obtained a doctoral degree (with honors) in Sinology in the field of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (Title of the doctoral thesis: “Learning to read Chinese texts: An action research based investigation of a new approach towards raising students’ awareness of the literary style in Chinese expository texts”).
