Mascha Ertel has been a University Assistant in the Department of Nursing Science since 2025 in Univ.-Prof. Dr. Kerstin Hämel's team. Following her training as a nurse in Bremen, she completed a bachelor's degree in nursing with a focus on vocational education at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hannover followed by a master's degree in public health at Bielefeld University.

In her research, she focuses on the development of nursing professions in German-speaking countries, innovative care approaches in primary health care and the development of new roles and professional pathways for nurses.

Her PhD project focuses on the professional relationship between school nurses and chronically ill adolescents in Austria and Germany, and its contribution to coping with illness and developmental tasks.
