Research interests

Since 2011 I am senior lecturer for teaching Chinese as foreign language at the department of East Asian Studies, University of Vienna.    I have been teaching pedagogy courses and various modern Chinese language courses including translation for the BA and MA programmes.  My research and teaching activities focus on Chinese as foreign language, curriculum development and e-tandem learning.  Currently I am working on the Third Language Learning Tandem-Skype /L3TASK Project (founded by the EU Lifelong Learning Programme 543237-LLP-12013-1-AT-KA2-KA2MP). I organize e-tandem partners between our Chinese students and German students of Xiang Tan University in China.  Concerning on e-tandem learning, my research focuses on tandem organization, task design and culture awareness; see project webpage: http://l3task.eu/index.php . A further on-going project is to develop supplimentary teaching materials.

Before coming to University of Vienna, I have been teaching modern Chinese, Spanish and L2 pedagogy at various universities in the USA, Germany, and Austria.  I have given workshops on Chinese language and culture, cooperative teaching and curriculum design.  I have also designed authentic Chinese teaching materials (DVD for listening comprehension, “Project 2001 Fellowship” by Middlebury College, VT, USA).
