Abstract
The project "Migration Ties" examines migrant milieus in Austria with an emphasis on their transnational networks. In a first step, a quantitative survey will be carried out. By applying the "Sinus-Milieus"-model, it is the aim to identify and describe Austrian migrant milieus and their transnational ties. The survey and the Sinus-Milieus analysis are carried out by INTEGRAL (subcontractor) in close cooperation with the project partners.
Building on the findings of the quantitative survey, it is examined how the milieu-affiliation shapes the migrants' transnational connections. Therefore, qualitative interviews with experts will be conducted as well as group discussions with members of different migrant milieus. The group discussions, which will be conducted by the research team at the Department of Sociology, are expected to shed light on milieu-specific characteristics and to help reconstructing the meanings of transnationalism and transnational social spaces in selected milieus. Finally, the results of the quantitative and qualitative research are analyzed and prepared for the end-users. In addition, evidence-based recommendations for decision-makers from politics and administration are provided.
