Project Details

Abstract

The topic of the SFB is the overall spectrum of variation and varieties of German in Austria (‘DiÖ’), which will be subjected to extensive analyses from the perspectives of variation linguistics, language contact and multilingualism research as well as sociolinguistically based perception and language attitudes research.
The SFB will result in two central outputs: First, these include extensive and detailed analyses of DiÖ with its diverse varieties and language contacts, which - in line with the research focus of the research group - will emerge from a wide range of linguistic sub-disciplines, namely variation linguistics, sociolinguistics, dialectology, language history, language contact, multilingualism and language attitudes research, perceptual linguistics, corpus linguistics, computational linguistics and language technology. Second, the data collected and processed in the SFB will be made available via an online research platform or digital research infrastructure for DiÖ. Via this research platform, the SFB data will firstly be processed (sensitively and in accordance with ethical standards), classified and made accessible to linguists, language learners and teachers as well as the interested public via various query and search options. This data includes collected materials (in the form of questionnaires, audio recordings, transcripts, language maps and other types of processing) as well as the various annotation and classification levels of the data.
