한국의 핵비확산조약(NPT) 서명과 비준(1968-1975)

The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) is an international treaty aimed at preventing the indiscriminate manufacture, use, and proliferation of nuclear weapons. South Korea signed the treaty on July 1, 1968, the first day it was open for signature, but withheld its ratification by the National Assembly until March 1975, maintaining an ambiguous stance on its participation in the NPT regime for many years. Until now, IR scholarship has often understood South Korea's decision to join the NPT as a result of U.S. government pressure within the framework of the U.S.-ROK alliance. However, by closely analyzing the negotiation process between South Korean, U.S., and Canadian officials based on declassified documents, this book draws attention to the multilayered variables and interactions between various actors at home and abroad that influenced the ROK government's decision to sign and ratify the NPT. It also considers the autonomous space and limits of South Korean diplomacy revealed by the negotiations over South Korea's accession to the NPT and the historical implications of these negotiations, both past and present.
