Abstract

This research examines the concept of translation expertise from an emic perspective, emphasizing the need for ethnographic approaches in understanding how translators perceive and practice their expertise in authentic workplace environments. By exploring translation as a collaborative and situated activity, the study aims to expand the current understanding of translation processes beyond individual cognitive aspects. The ongoing RETREX project employs methodologies including participant observation and interviews to investigate real-world translation contexts, highlighting the relevance of qualitative research in Translation Studies.
