Abstract
Regular physical activity leads to functional and also structural adaptations of the cardiovascular system, which can be reflected in alterations of the resting ECG. Within the context of a sports medical examination, the registration of a resting ECG for the detection of potentially life-threatening cardiac disease is required as an obligatory examination. For the correct interpretation of the athlete & apos;s ECG, it is important to be able to distinguish between typical sports-related ECG changes and atypical or unusual ECG changes in order to avoid unnecessary further diagnostics on the one hand, and to detect underlying cardiac diseases on the other. Intermediate findings ("borderline") have an in-between position, which only need to be further clarified if at least two findings of this category occur in athletes. This brief overview summarizes the most important statements of the "International recommendations for electrocardiographic interpretationen in athletes" published in 2017 and deals with pitfalls in everyday practice.
