    Abstract

The microscopic diffusion mechanism of iron in D03-ordered Fe-Si alloys has been investigated by Mössbauer spectroscopy. A systematic study of Fe diffusion has been performed on the iron- and silicon-rich side of Fe3Si stoichiometry. Five powder samples with a Si concentration between 22 and 29% were investigated at room and high temperatures. The composition of the samples was obtained from the spectra at room temperatures whereas the diffusion coefficients of iron were calculated from the spectra at elevated temperatures. The result is the first direct experimental confirmation of the fastest Fe-diffusion at stoichiometric composition. Œ 2001 Scitec Publications.
