    Abstract

The elastic moduli of composites were analyzed at high temperature using a non-destructive method, the resonant beam technique (RBT). The development of materials with large elastic constants was found to be of greater importance for light weight construction materials. It was because the elastic constants and not the strength was the limiting factor of constructions for aerospace applications. Materials developed for such applications were anisotropic composites, which were designed specifically for a given loading situation. The Young's moduli and the shear moduli in different directions in space differed because of the distinct anisotropy of the material. An increase in the elastic constants with increasing temperature was observed.
