    Abstract

The (2?3 × 2?3)R30° oxygen superstructures on Rh(111) was investigated. High resolution core level spectroscopy (HRCLS), scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and density functional theory (DFT) were used in the study of the high-coverage oxygen induced structures. It was observed that oxygen adsorbed in both fcc and hcp sites in the structures. The existence of a p(2 × 2)-3O superstructure with ? = 3/4 monolayers (ML) was also found in the structures.
