Abstract

In the following paper, two contradictory thoughts concerning the notion of hope will be illuminated with regards to the outlined PhD project. e rst consideration will follow an approach through the term boundaries in the context of the concept of Planetary Boundaries, as in this concept hope is placed particularly in stabilizing the existing system. In contrast, in the second approach, considerations are presented concerning a wrestling-with-change, in which hope is evoked through transforma- tion, which will draw on the biblical narrative of Jacob at the River Jabbok (Gen 32:23-33). In the conclusion of the paper, both considerations merge into a third aspect, namely the biblical understanding of the covenant.
