Abstract
With around 1.5 to 2 million members, Anatolian Alevism is undergoing a major transformation, from an “invisible secret religion” towards an institutionalized religion in its new home in Europe. It is no coincidence that, in this process, different levels of “interreligious dialogue” in the city of Hamburg have a substantial role to play. Despite the various challenges with which the former guest workers from Anatolia are confronted, they are constantly striving for an interreligious dialogue in Hamburg.
The edited volume “Religious Diversity and Interreligious Dialogue” from Anna Körs, Wolfram Weisse and Jean-Paul Willaime (2020) gives special attention to interreligious dialogue and interfaith relations as specific means of dealing with plurality in Europe. It highlights how religious pluralization effects societal fields such as theology, politics, civil society, education, and communication / media. Handan Aksünger-Kizil’s chapter focuses on the different levels of interreligious dialogue and challenges from an Alevi perspective in Hamburg (Germany).
