Abstract
Peer groups in elementary educational institutions offer a unique glimpse into young childrens’ social development. These groups give children the chance to form differentiated relationships, which significantly affect their social interactions with each other. By means of theoretical considerations and preliminary results regarding a connection between group structure and prosocial behaviour among peers, I will illustrate how both the basic sciences and the elementary educational institutions themselves can profit from research conducted directly in the childcare facilities.
