MiDENTITY (Mediale) Identitätskonstruktionen, transnationale Selbstverortungen & verkürzende Fremdzuschreibungen in der Migrationsgesellschaft am Beispiel von Jugendlichen in Wien

Publications: Contribution to journalArticlePeer Reviewed

Abstract

How do young people from Vienna define themselves and others? What values, traits and group stereotypes do they attach to the (multi-local) identities of themselves and their peers and how do these attributions relate to (mediated) representations of “selfhood” and “otherness” that may problematically inscribe socio-cultural, national and spatial markers of difference and belonging? MiDENTITY explores the discursive construction of identities among adolescents from Vienna together with the students and teachers of three Viennese schools.
The project strives to develop best-practice models that facilitate the teaching of critical media literacy and civic education.
