On the chaoticity of Pluto's orbit

Publications: Contribution to bookChapterPeer Reviewed

Abstract

In this study we determined the width of the "stable" region of Pluto's orbit in three different models: the spatial circular and the elliptic restricted three body problem and a model of the outer solar system consisting of the Sun, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Both, the examination of the orbital elements and the computations of the Lyapunov Characteristic Exponents yielded to a width of the "stable" zone of about 0.7 AU for the semi-major axis. In this context "stable" means that no significant changes of the orbital elements have been found within the integration time.
