Abstract

This article presents a history of language policy of Equatorial Guinea since
its independence in 1968 until today. Not only in this field do we encounter
a complexity that is difficult to explain rationally. The different constitutions of the independent Equatorial Guinea only reveal different orientations
within language policy, which sometimes seem to be opposed to each other. A historically arbitrary demarcation, a multi-ethnic society and an intellectually uninterested regime increase the degree of linguistic unmanageability.
