Abstract
This qualitative study examines the influence of digital forms of communication and interaction on the religious orientations of Muslim youth in Austria. The analysis of numerous interviews shows that religious orientations are closely interwoven with social media and that media images of Islam have a proportional influence on religious orientations. The analysis also proves that a complex interaction must be assumed.
The findings offer new perspectives for research on the religious orientations of Muslim youth in the age of digital media, encourage critical reflection on conventional images of Islam and may be of relevance to experts and practitioners.
