Využití výsledků lexikografické činnosti vídeňského profesora češtiny J. V. Zlobického v Jungmannově Slovníku česko-německém

Josef Jungmann’s Slovník česko-německý [Czech-German Dictionary] is one of the greatest lexicographical works of its time. It markedly contributed to both the linguistic and literary development of the Czech language. In compiling it, Jungmann also drew on the linguistic collections of the linguist, lawyer and translator Josef Valentin Zlobický, the first professor of Czech at the University of Vienna. This is evidenced not only by the list of the sources used, which is included at the beginning of the dictionary, but also by the numerous references to Zlobický’s linguistic material in individual entries. Jungmann had at his disposal Tomsa’s dictionary with Zlobický’s entries. In addition, he could use Zlobický’s linguistic extracts from other sources, which he had received through Josef Dobrovský. He lists Zlobický’s entries under the abbreviation Zlob., and his examples from other sources under the abbreviation Zlob. exc. These abbreviations occur in all five volumes together 3,456 times. This paper takes a closer look at the use of Zlobický’s linguistic material in Jungmann’s Czech-German Dictionary and attempts to evaluate it.
